Women Who Tech Telesummits

Women Who Tech has hosted a series of virtual telesummits, bringing together women from around the globe to leverage their technological acumen to inspire change and transform the world. The thought provoking panels (held online and by phone) offer resources and tools for launching a successful campaign or building an online personal brand, determining the ROI of an organization's social media outreach, get that big promotion, or even launch your own startup.

2015 Telesummit

In 2015, Mary Hodder, the founder of Dabble.com led a keynote about "Breaking the Mirror-tocracy," where she talked about how the lack of diversity, or non-defaults, in the business of making technology is a problem in both the startup world and the established tech industry generally. Mirror-tocracy is the phenomenon where people like to work with and fund people who look like them, usually white straight men. This usually leads to the exclusion of any non-defaults.

The fix isn’t just a “slap a solution onto a symptom” like speaker trainings, or companies hiring more non-defaults, or ensuring that more speakers at conferences are women, or lean in/lean out, or STEM training for every non-default out there, or…any other tactical salve that might appear at first to save us from the culture of work we have in our society. The underlying problem is complex, but an integral part of the solution is just starting the conversation about emotional intelligence (EI).
